Where do I even begin with this post?! I have so much to say, so many things I have been wanting to share, and so many things planned between now and the end of April.
First, let’s recap a little bit!
In case you missed it . . . I’m pregnant! We’re expecting our first little man in April, and we are excited beyond words!
Because of that . . . It’s no secret that I was quiet on social media, my blog, and elsewhere for a few months this past fall and winter. Around August, the early stages of pregnancy and all it’s terrible but wonderful side effects hit me very hard. I’m sure there are plenty of women who have and have had it far worse, but for me, it felt pretty terrible. I wasn’t expecting to be so nauseas all. day. long. and neither was I expecting to be so utterly exhausted all the time. I wish I could tell you I only fell asleep in my studio chair while working from my home studio a few times, but unfortunately it happened more often than not!
I had many projects going that quickly got put on hold simply because focusing on growing a tiny human, getting enough rest, and getting through the day with some nutrition in me was top priority whether I said so or not! I did, however, have one (big) project that I kept with: Illustrating my first book!!
I took on that project just before finding out I was pregnant and I was committed to meet deadlines with my publisher. I was really grateful for the project every step of the way because it did keep me in my studio working though, and looking back I am even more grateful for that book for many, many reasons I won’t go into now!
The book is title A Book of Mormon Easter: The Resurrection Story in Picture, Song, and Verse and is set to release February 14th! And! I just found out this morning that pre-order is available on Amazon NOW!!! When I get my copy, you can be sure that I’ll be sharing little peeks of it! Can’t wait!
And . . . in case you missed our other news: We moved to Texas!!
Just before Thanksgiving time, Alex and I were chatting one night about our goals, plans, priorities . . . he had just begun talking with a company in Dallas (one that we had had our sights on for 3 years!) for a possible new job. We didn’t want to get our hopes up or anything though, because sometimes positions aren’t always available and timing isn’t perfect, so we were still making goals and plans as if we were still going to be in Chicago at least until summer 2017. I said to him that night, “Alex, I’m finally feeling like Chicago is really our home. I would be ok if we were here another 2-3 years.” We had originally planned to be there for 2 years, but when we first moved there, although the city was exciting and so fun, it was so different and taxing in ways I hadn’t expected or planned on. It took me a while to get used to the new normal and settle in. When I did, however, I really did fall in love with the city and the thought of leaving it seemed very bitter sweet. Well, to begin the whirlwind that was our moving to DALLAS, TEXAS, Alex got a job offer just before Thanksgiving that would put us in Texas starting his new job the second week of December! We canceled ALL our holiday plans and flights for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year and started packing our apartment that night.
We’ve been in Texas since then, and it has been so good to us. We are loving our new little life here, and still can’t believe how fast everything changed for us. We received countless blessings and witnessed many little miracles that aligned things so perfectly for us to be and we’re so excited for what’s to come.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some of my stories I’ve been posting of my new studio and all the new paintings and projects I have planned before baby comes in April! Here’s what you can expect the next little bit:
-The Religious Easter book (previously mentioned) that I illustrated in the fall is coming out next month!! 🎉
-I’ve just started illustrations for a second book! This one is geared towards children and Christmas time, and I am just so thrilled to be working on it. It’s on top priority to be finished before April.
-THREE new floral prints are going to be released in my shop THIS week!
-Speaking of my shop! Many of you noticed everything was unavailable for purchase over the holiday season (due to our sudden move to Texas! And being without a studio for over a month!!) but I’m working this week to get it all back and inventoried! Shop will be open again THIS week!
-Lastly, I have one more collection to release early, very early springtime! You’ll be seeing lots of previews and….. a giveaway!! You won’t want to miss it.
