Portraits have always been my love. If you’ve been following me over the years, you may have noticed my return to portraits time and time again. As I learn and grow as an artist, my tastes, technique, and style may evolve, but I have found that I always love painting portraits. With my new season of life (I’m a mom now,) I wanted to spend my very precious time in the studio doing something I absolutely love, which is how the Portrait Project 2.0 came to be. I can’t wait to paint for you. Your littles’ portraits are heirlooms for generations to come. Thank you for being a part of The Portrait Project.
The Portrait Project is simple: You purchase a custom portrait listing from my shop, send me your photographs to review, and you get a beautiful, hand-painted, heirloom portrait.
Below you will find a quick video guide to help you photograph your littles for me to paint, as well as some commonly asked questions, if you have any others, please reach out to me. I’ll be happy to answer.
How do I get my little one’s portrait painted?!
You’re in the right spot!!
Please click here to go directly to the portrait listing.
*I am listing only 10 spots for portraits… for now. Once I finish those 10, I will open up another 10 spots. There will not be a waiting list, but you can sign up for my newsletter which will tell you when more are available.
Once you have purchased your custom portrait, you’ll be contacted by email to submit your photograph(s) for review, and we’ll go from there!
How big will the paintings be?
There are two options for sizes. 6×8 and 8×10.
Will you paint anyone? What about my dog?
I’m planning to paint mostly children and youth for this project, but if you have someone else in mind, please reach out to me before you purchase a custom portrait listing.
What if I have more than one person for you to paint? Do I get a discount?
I love the idea of painting siblings! For this project, I am only allowing one face per painting, but if you buy 2+ custom portrait paintings there is a discount.
I live outside the USA, where do you ship to?
If you’re international, please contact me before purchasing. I can ship to most anywhere in the world, but you’ll be required to pay the shipping.
What if I need a refund?
As a perfectionist, I work tirelessly on every detail of a painting before it’s delivered. I have never had any of my friends, customers, or collectors request a refund or be unhappy with the portraits they have received, but, if you ever experience any issues please contact me. Refunds are available anytime up until I have started work on your order. The paintings I create take a lot of time and expensive, top-of-the-line, quality paint and supplies, so I cannot offer refunds once the paintings have started.
Do I need to come to your studio? Does the person being painted need to sit for you while you paint? Can I send you photographs?
For this project, there is no need to come to my studio or sit while I paint. I created the quick video guide at the top of this post to help you photograph great images of your little one (or whomever it is) for me to paint. I’ve had extensive training and experience painting portraits from life, and with that knowledge I will happily apply it when painting from photographs.
My friend is a professional photographer and we have awesome pictures from her, can you paint those?
Unfortunately, those images hold a copyright to the photographer. As an artist myself, I respect your photographer’s ownership and artistry and will not paint their images without written consent and copyright release. The good news is, I created a video to help you quickly take photos of your little ones for me to paint! Please email me if you have any questions.
I have an awesome photo I took last year, can you paint that instead?
Sure! Send it my way!
I’m not sure if this photograph is exactly what you’re looking for, what should I do?
No problem! I will be reviewing ALL photographs before I paint them and making sure they are perfect. I want you to love the shot, and I want to love the shot, too. This may mean, in some cases, that I ask you to take a few more photos, but I’m confident that together we can get a great photograph for me to paint.
There are things in the background, is that ok?
Objects in the background are totally fine—my paintbrush is really good at photoshop 😉
Can my image have a filter on it or can I edit it before?
No need to edit or put any filters on your image, in fact, I’d prefer it to be totally unedited. After studying and painting skin tones in real life (not from photographs) there are beautiful, subtle, colors that can be seen and that I love to paint. Oftentimes, editing or filters distort the color from reality, but I love my paintings to look as if the person were standing right in front of me.
How much will a portrait cost?
Portraits start at $320. Please see the table below:
|1 Portrait||2 Portraits||3 Portraits||4+ Portraits|
|6x8in.||$320||$305 each||$298 each||$290 each|
|8x10in.||$416||$388 each||$378 each||$365 each|
What type of materials do you use?
I am always on the hunt for top-of-the-line materials that are sure to last with proper care and treatment. Thus, my products sometime change, but they are always archival and the very best on the market. I intend for all my paintings to be heirloom works of art made to last, so quality materials are key.
How long will it take for me to get my paintings?
This answer is determined by a few factors. Paintings are completed on a first-come-first-serve basis from the time I get a photograph from you that we agree upon. Each one is hand painted until it is perfect. This process can be lengthy. Your place in line will also determine when I begin your painting, and thus, finish your painting. Furthermore, oil paint takes a very long time to dry, and I will not ship your painting unless I am comfortable with its dryness. As a rough estimate, plan on a minimum of 6-8weeks.
What else should I know?
-As the artist, I reserve the right to decline orders; for declined orders, you will be fully refunded.
-I reserve all rights to my paintings, this includes reproduction rights.
-By submitting photos, you release copyright to me to allow me to paint from your photo(s). Please do not submit photos taken by anyone else but you.
-I love to share what I’m working on, what work I have just completed, and to keep an online portfolio. It’s likely your paintings will be shared on social media or kept in my portfolio. If you would like or not like to be tagged or named, please let me know! If you have no preference, no need to mention it at all. 🙂
